It means the guest rooms have been refurbished — new furniture, bathrooms, finishes and fittings — since the hotel was built. A star rating measures facilities, not the age of the fit-out, so two same-star hotels can be a decade apart in how fresh their rooms feel. How recent is “recently renovated”?+
As a rule of thumb, rooms renovated in the last ~5 years still feel current; after ~8–10 years a refurbishment is usually due. The hotels at the top of this list were renovated most recently, so their rooms are the freshest.
Do renovated rooms cost more?+
Not necessarily. Price follows demand and season more than fit-out age, so a freshly renovated room is often the same price as a tired one next door. That’s exactly why checking the renovation year before you book is worth it — same price, newer room.
